Read the government notice before assuming availability

The Press Information Bureau notice of 22 April 2026 describes the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Rules, 2026, with commencement stated as 1 May 2026. It distinguishes prohibited online money games from permissible online social games and esports.

The notice says that classification considers stakes or fees, expected monetary winnings, the revenue model and whether rewards or game assets can be monetised outside the game. Calling a product a skill game, using virtual credits or accepting cryptocurrency is not proof that it falls outside the prohibition.

No local-authorization claim

This guide does not establish that Fish & Chips may offer real-money games in India. Do not interpret access to a website as permission, or use technical workarounds to evade restrictions. Adult status does not make a prohibited activity lawful.

Complaints and safety

The notice describes grievance mechanisms for social games and esports and the role of the Online Gaming Authority of India. Do not assume those mechanisms guarantee recovery of funds from a prohibited money-gaming service.

Retain receipts and messages if money is disputed. Contact appropriate authorities through independently verified channels, and reject requests for advance recovery fees or account secrets.
